Information About Hydroponics

Hydroponics is a form of gardening and cultivation of plants. Even after several years the pollutants that are found in soil in which we are exposed do not go away. Because plants are in mediums that can carry factors which can contribute to the ill health of people researchers have looked for ways to minimize plant exposure to these mediums. In hydroponics soil is not the medium used for planting plants.

Soil Is Not Important

In hydroponic gardening, researchers have found out that soil is actually just a reservoir where nutrients are stored for the plant’s consumption. The reservoir is needed only because it stores food for the plant. If a plant receives the needed nutrition some other way then it is not essential to use this reservoir. The nutrients found in soil dissolve in water to allow the plants to absorb them easier is what hydroponic research has found out. With hydroponics there is no need for soil for some plants.

Plants that are usually found in soil, terrestrial plants, can actually survive even when they are soilless, as long as they have access to the right kinds of nutrients that are essential tot heir growth. Hydroponics also has some medium that may be more suitable for a healthy human life. some of these mediums include perlite, gravel, and mineral wool. They are there for stability for the roots to have something to hold on to.

In hydroponics the important factor is that the nutritional needs of a plant is filled by using the mineral solution. Almost all plants can grow without soil as long as the nutrient based solution is present. The growing plant is given a solution that is formulated to meet the needs of the plant and help it thrive but the solution is given in doses. Being exposed to water all the time is not tolerated by all plants so nutitional solutions
are given at certain intervals through hydroponics.

Hydroponics has certain advantages such as cultivation in a clean environment with the fuss and mess of soil. Hydorponics reduces many soil borne diseases that target produce and plants which is another advantage to hydroponics. For places that are barren such as the desert hydroponics offers a solution for cultivating plants. To grow most plants it is not necessary to plant them in soil therefore, greenhouses can grow better crops without soil because the nutrients needed are provided directly to the plants.
